the Pleasure Principle

Everyday: SOUL LIGHT

In West Hollywood, the light filters in through tall west facing windows.  Luminous.  Distilled through a canopy of blue jacaranda- thousands of vibrant green leaves forming a veil between me and the outside world.

My writing requires exactly this quality of light.

Sensorial: Venus of Willendorf

I was eleven years old when Mrs. Antonia C. Hall showed our class an image of the 25,000 year old figurine nicknamed "Venus of Willendorf."

In today's parlance, the lady would be described as *thicc* :) In ancient times, her body type  - round, fertile, well fed- held supermodel status.

This Venus of W. candle found me- a pleasure in itself.  I like to think that it ignited a series of body pleasures: Chi Nei Tsang bodywork from a masterful practitioner, spontaneous dancing with strangers at La Boheme in an outdoor garden, and acupuncture to renew my energy.

On Purpose: The Good Samaritan

,
"I hope that's not me," I thought.  I'd just read about a study done at Princeton whereby seminary students on their way to deliver a sermon about being a Good Samaritan totally failed when given the chance to be a Good Samaritan.

(for the experiment, an actor collapsed in distress along their path.  Most rushed past.)

Did I mention that I was born at "the Good Samaritan" hospital?

A few days ago, while on a walk, a very troubled man fell face down in the middle of busy Santa Monica Blvd. He was incoherent.  Together with one young lady we waved traffic away so that he wouldn't be run over till 911 could send an ambulance.

I stopped.  Whew.  And that made me very happy.
